Thanks! It’s quite different than anything else I’ve written and yet I think it’s also so very me. I’m proud of my creepy little story. I didn’t find it easy to write and doing it pushed me past where I thought I could go.
I enjoyed it. I’m curious if you see this as middle/YA or older. We don’t know her age. I am reading something very fairytale-oriented right now, and so the tone of your story fits right in!
I originally wrote it for a MG anthology but took out the age when the project didn’t get picked up. Because it’s a story reflecting on grief, the liminal fairytale space allows her pain to take corporeal form. I feel like something as mundane as how old we are doesn’t matter in relation to grieving loss. That’s my experience anyway. As far as I’m concerned she could be 12 or 25 or 55. Emotions are emotions!
